Sacro Occipital Technique Education🧠 CSF is the lifeblood of the CNS. It is the equivalent of a lymphatic system, carrying away from the cranial and spinal systems substances that would not be able to leave at significant rates otherwise.

🧠 Studies have shown that for every neurological disease that has an immune component to it, the system that is responsible for the movement and exchange CSF may play a major role in disease formation. It has been shown that faulty CSF flow may be one of the possible causes of autism for a large subset of people.

🧠 Because it is know that CSF is very important for brain health, data suggests that in this large subset of kids, the fluid is not flowing properly, therefore reducing nutrients to the brain and allowing toxins to remain in the CNS to be reabsorbed back into the system.

🌟Chiropractic cranial and spinal adjustments have been shown to remove tension in the dural meningeal system and restore normal CSF flow mechanics.

🌟Chiropractic Adjustments have been shown to help:

• Restore Abnormal Brain and CSF Function

• Change blood supply to the brain

• Change the quality, quantity and speed of nerve impulse

• Reduce Neurotransmitter dysfunction

• Change in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow by dural meningeal compression or stretching

• Balance aberrant Brain temperature changes

• Increase Nutrient availability to the CNS

• Reduce Waste and toxic residue buildup

• Increase the body’s adaptive threshold

• Increase the overall functional capability of the nervous system to respond to stress

🧠Don't ever forget how important what you do as a chiropractor is to the health and well-being of every person that you adjust.

🧠One of my favorite techniques for enhancing CSF function is the Ventricular Bulb Technique, what is yours?

Okay, Okay, so the tree is up a bit early....... but with 2020 rapidly ending (and not a moment too soon.......😝 ) I thought moving into Christmassy cheer mode might lift things a little. 🥳

So, wishing you all a early Merry Christmas and here's looking forward to 2021!

Just this.....❤️In 1991, the pioneering work of J. Andrew Armour, M.D., Ph.D., showed that the heart has a mind of its own. With 40,000 neurons, the heart’s nervous system functions independent of the brain. The technical term for this system is the intrinsic cardiac nervous system, aka the “heart-brain.” This monumental discovery led to a new field of science called neurocardiology. When the heart moves into coherence, it acts as an amplifier, sending coherent information through its afferent nervous pathways to the thalamus, which synchronizes the neocortex & the brain’s survival centers. ⁣
⁣
The heart & the brain are connected by efferent (descending) & afferent (ascending) pathways; yet, 90% of the connecting nerve fibers ascend from the heart to the brain. Armour found that these afferent neural pathways continuously send signals that interact with & modify activity in the brain’s higher cognitive & emotional centers. These signals from the heart to the brain connect via the vagus nerve & go to the thalamus (synchronizes cortical activity: thinking, sensing, & knowing language), then to the frontal lobes (motor functions & problem solving), & on to the brain’s survival center, the amygdala (emotional memory) whose core cells synchronize to the heart’s beating. So, if your heart center is open, your brain’s survival centers are in check, making you less likely to react to stressors. The less open your heart center, the more likely you will live in survival mode. ⁣
⁣
The discovery of afferent neural pathways from the heart to the brain proves that the heart, without receiving any information from the brain, processes emotions, responds directly to the situation, & regulates its rhythms. That’s because the heart & the ANS always work together. The nerves aiding this connection allow the heart to sense, recall, self-regulate, & decide about cardiac control independent of the nervous system. Simply put, emotions originating in the heart play an important role in the way we think, process information, feel, & relate to the world. Once the ❤️ center is activated, it acts as an amplifier to jump-start the brain, enhance its activity, & create balance & coherence through the body.

Take a deep breath now....Perhaps the most important fluid of your body is the 250ml of cerebrospinal fluid that flows around a system of pipes surrounding the brain called the ventricles.

CSF is produced by the choroid plexus in the third ventricle, and from here it circulates through the brain via the ventricles and then to the spinal cord.

Each day the entire volume of CSF is replaced four times. During sleep, the blood brain barrier relaxes to let CSF into the neurons and flush out the build-up from the day.

The veins around the chest vertebrae column transmit pressure upwards to the brain. They make up a sprawling network of tinier veins that extend up into the epidural venous system of the spinal canal. It’s called a venous plexus.

During an inhale and exhale the chest rises and falls. The change in pressure flows upward to the CSF dynamics around the brain.

Here’s how it works:
 Breath in (inspiration) – Lowers chest pressure and empties the venous plexus. CSF flows down the spine.
 Breath out (expiration) – Increases chest pressure and fills the venous plexus, pushing CSF up the spine into the head.

The choroid plexus has many different functions. It eliminates waste products from brain tissues. It controls the travel of immune T cells in the CSF that promote cognition and fight infections in the brain.

It regulates the travel of critical microglia and neural stem cells that create new brain cells of all types. It is the major determinant of critical neuroplasticity time windows during brain development.

It is vital for the health of the brain regulating the immune surveillance and the maintenance and pruning of synapses.

CSF fluid is secreted by the choroid cells into the lateral ventricles; it flows to the third and fourth ventricles and then to the spinal cord. It is taken up in the sub arachnoid space into lymph near the cribiform plate and the newly discovered sinus lymphatics to lymph nodes and the blood.

To stimulate this system:

1) Take a big deep belly breath (count to 4)
2) Exhale slowly through the nose (counting to 8)
3) Inhale for 4
4) Exhale for 8 seconds.
5) Repeat 10 times

What did you feel?
